Approval of BlackBerry PlayBook AIR Apps

Happy to report that two of the applications I ported to the BlackBerry PlayBook have been approved!

Granted, it took almost 6 weeks for approval to take place, but this should give a little more hope to those developers who haven’t heard anything from RIM since submitting to AppWorld. Especially those aiming to get a free PlayBook!

Both apps use Flex 4.5 ‘Hero’ and are compiled to run on Adobe AIR for QNX. After I get my hands on a device, I’ll be performing additional development to take better advantage of the unique APIs available through the Tablet OS SDK and to better tweak each application for this specific piece of hardware.

Here are the two apps that have been approved:

  1. Great to hear you got approval at last.

My second submitted app was approved on 21st January but strangely my first submitted app is still pending and I’m still eagerly waiting for a response.. :-S

But at least I got a confirmation my second app qualifies for a PlayBook and I’ve submitted my shipping address, so I now have something else to eagerly wait for.

    :-D

  2. Congrats!

I’m still waiting for approval of an app I submitted on December 20th — after emailing RIM they replied they were overwhelmed and reviews were just taking a while.

Think just a simple email going out to developers who have their app in review explaining the situation would’ve gone a long way. At least for me this was an opportunity to try out their platform (which has a lot of potential I might add) and the review process just killed the experience for me.

Granted, they’re probably still putting everything in place and things will hopefully improve but as a first impression of the submission and approval process things could’ve been handled a lot better.

I wonder if there’s any news about the developer fee (which is waived for now), do I need to pay next year to keep my app on appworld, how much will that cost, will I need to buy a certificate for each app as seems to be the case with Blackberry apps.

When your app got approved and you were told your app qualified for a free PlayBook, did they put the condition that you resubmit it as a signed application? I’m under the impression everyone will have to submit their app again, just hope that won’t mean having to go through an approval process again to see if anything changed.

  3. Yes, after receiving word of approval, they sent me an email apologizing for the wait and explained it as a backlog. I certainly hope the process does improve with time.

As for you questions; they are good ones by I do not have any answers. Not sure they know at this point or if things are still being decided on their end.

  4. Hey! I just got my playbook and figured i’d look at your apps. Have you removed them from the store? Just checking. Mine’s “Treasure Code for Playbook” and it looks sweet! (I might update the graphics and some of the UI though, and possibly make the current release free). P.S. i’m sibothiel on twitter
