My Favorite New CS3 Feature (sarcasm)

The installer for CS3 Web Premium is horrible! This is a consistent experience across machines. In an attempt to install the product on a fresh copy of Windows XP, I’ve had to run the installer about 5 times now. I’ve had similar experiences on other machines, generally installing twice, and am now getting rather frustrated.

Installing software shout not take 40 minutes unless you are installing an OS… installing software should not have to be performed 5 times (maybe more!) before an acceptable result is achieved.

What the hell, Adobe???

  1. I too just installed both Mac and PC upgrades to CS3.

It does take a while to load … however the problems you mentioned may be due to other installs … particuarly if you had a CS3 BETA and try to install over with a final product. I definiately recall having to run CS3Clean, which is why it exists! Yes, there is CS3Clean package to run if you were part of BETA (not sure on the trial versions, probably not). Search for it.

Other than that all I can say is that there a couple places during the full package install where things seemingly aren’t going anywhere, yet if you leave it be, it’ll still be installing. There’s quite a bit to install, given it’s 3.x GB’s of product!

My advise is: don’t abort a full install unless you know for a fact the installer is frozen or otherwise unresponsive.

Other than that … I’d scold Microsoft rather than Adobe.

  2. I agree, the install process is dog slow and not so user friendly. I wrote a similar post related to this at my blog today. Just think things need to be tweaked a bit. A little mosre customization in the installer options would be a nice start.

  3. This is a fresh install of Windows in this case- nothing else on here. Other machines have had beta software both public and private and I’ve had to install twice for a complete install (with cleanup scripts). The issue isn’t that I abort the install- the install completes with errors. I expected problems with other boxes but not with a clean install of the OS.

I have plenty else to scold Microsoft over…
