Flash Development for Android Cookbook – eBook giveaway!

I’ll be at Adobe’s San Jose headquarters this week for the Adobe Education Leader Institute – and thought this will be a great time to run a little contest in promotion of my book! I’ll be giving away a couple copies of the eBook version through Packt.

The eBook version is great; I’ve been using this myself, as I go about my mobile work for quick reference and it’s been delightfully helpful. Very easy to do a quick text search or pull up the table on contents and so forth.

All you have to do to win a copy is visit https://www.packtpub.com/flash-development-for-android-cookbook/book and leave a comment here about a feature that interests you. Then, just link to your comment on Twitter – use the hashtag #FlashAndroidBook and be sure to follow me or it will not count!

The giveaway will run for a week and I’ll pick winners at random on Sunday the 31st! Spread the word!

Incidentally; for those interested in reviewing the book, contact Shaveer Irani (shaveeri – AT – packtpub.com) with the subject line of “Flash Development for Android Cookbook – Review” and the publisher may just hook you up!

  1. Mainly the whole chapter about converting Flex and ActionScript projects to true mobile experiences. I’ve got a few things I would like to convert, and although I have done some of it, it’d be really nice to see if I’m doing it properly, as well as getting somebody else’s insight.

Also, i don’t seem to find a lot of information about submitting applications, so it would be good to have something to follow step by step.

  2. Hi Joseph,

One of things I’m most eager to get my hands on is building native extensions for various platforms in order to leverage the latest hardware present on several devices. I believe this is an area where concise and very directed instruction sets will do a lot to get people started, especially if they have mostly web development experience.

  3. One of the biggest challenges when developing for mobile is scaling and positioning all your interface elements for all the differing screen resolutions, aspect ratios, pixel densities and orientations. It looks like you latest book Joseph will have some useful information in it covering this exact topic. Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy. There looks like a tonne of useful information and code snippets in there.

  4. The geolocation and accelerometer are of great interest to me as I am developing an app for both android and playbook. This book will be very useful. Thanks Joseph.

For me it will be adapting our colleges reusable learning objects to the Android format. I am looking forward to the examples and finding new ways for students to have interactive content in the palm of their hand. I really appreciate tech books in PDF.
    Thanks!

  6. I like a nice quick reference on dealing with Android development with Flash. I am concerned about external audio or video content. I think it’s important to know the nuances of creating optimized content for mobile devices. This book should help. I like also the chapter on configuring various IDE tools (FDT, FlashDevelop, Flash, and Flash Builder) to work with it as well.

  7. I like accelerometer and the ability to use webcam and microphone input, I could create some weir and wonderful sound with this!
