Upcoming “August” and “Through Darkened Eyes” Digital-only Re-releases

I’ve decided to release both EP recordings as digital only with distribution being performed through CD Baby and their partners. You may recall that I made both titles available as free downloads along with the physical release of “A Prison of Oneself” in 2007.

August and Through Darkened Eyes

Why should I make these released available for purchase now after 2 years of free distribution through Fractured Vision Media? Well, that’s exactly it. No one knows FVM. People Know iTunes, Napster, CD Baby, et cetera. FVM is a very narrow conduit and these other vendors cast a wide net. This means more exposure for An Early Morning Letter, Displaced and now is the perfect time to do it- on our 10 year anniversary.

Hopefully, this will also seed the landscape in preparation for the physical release of “Shudderflowers” later this year. Working in this environment, one needs to change his way of thinking, every so often.

An Early Morning Letter, Displaced Secures Nomination in the World’s Largest Music Awards

Grassroots Music Organization Just Plain Folks (JPF) has announced their nominees for the 2009 edition of their music awards. The An Early Morning Letter, Displaced track “Condemnation” off of the recent full-length release, A Prison of Oneself, has received a nomination for best song in the “Ambient” category. After receiving a record setting 42,000 albums and over a half million songs from 163 countries around the world, the organization’s staff and team of volunteers filtered the music down to both song and album nominees in 95 genres of music. This year’s nominees come from over 80 different countries around the world.

The organization spent 14 months from the initial entry date to screen all the music and narrow down the field. JPF uses a unique mix of judges that come from the music industry, fellow artist and songwriter peers and music fans. “We feel that those groups mixed together make for a balanced and compelling process which identifies a lot of music that any one group might miss.”

So what is the criterion for judging all this music? “One simple question: Does the music move you?” Whitney explains. “I was an active musician, songwriter and most importantly music lover myself before starting this and when I went to write the instructions for our first awards process back in 1998, it occurred to me that people often use strict and rigid measuring sticks to judge music. That seemed unnatural to me. People listen to and love music that moves them… It either moves people or it doesn’t.”

“Condemnation” Nominated!

“Condemnation” from A Prison of Oneself is a JPF 2009 Nominee in the “Ambient” category. It’s nice to see this album get some extra publicity and recognition from a professional organization such as JPF.

This piece was nominated from a pool of 42,000 albums and 560,000 songs – so that’s pretty cool! I doubt this will move past the nominee phase, but never expected it to get this far since most do not have an appreciation for this type of music. A pleasant surprise.

JPF 2009What started as an informal way to recognize our best member submissions has grown into the largest Music Awards program in the world! Our volunteer judges include industry professionals, peers and music fans. Our sole criteria for judging is “Does it move you?”

We’ll be publishing a Press Release in the next few days regarding this nomination.
