What’s Up with DropFolders?

In mid-2010, I released a small project of mine called DropFolders to the general public. The application is built upon Adobe AIR and makes extensive use of the Native Process API to coordinate video transcode jobs through an embedded instance of the HandBrake CLI. It also adds a simple mechanism to employ a set of watch and destination folders along with custom video presets.

Sounds cool, right? Well a lot of other people think so too – I still get multiple emails every week asking about further development or just general usage tips. Since releasing the application, I’ve had to move on to other projects and simply do not have the time to improve the codebase on a regular basis. My plan was to open source everything last Summer – but I never found the time to do so and that’s sorta how things have been left since then.

However, I am at the end of a new project for the university which involves the integration and expansion of the DropFolders codebase into a new, server-based application called CrunchBuddy. I plan on integrating some of the improvements from CrunchBuddy into DropFolders and releasing this as an update across both Windows and OSX platforms. So… I know many are in need of an update – and I do have a list of general improvements… hoping to get this done over the next month or two.

  1. Dropfolders is my favorite software for automatic conversion, but we are now in 2013. When do you expect to release update ??

The option that will be good to had are:
reduction to system tray when in watch mode.
Specified what kind of file to watch for convert (.ts, .mpg, .flv, etc…)
A conversion slot time (Ex.Begin conversion at midnight and stop at 7)

With all those, it will be perfect i think.

    Thank you
    Eric
